Now offering in-person psychotherapy in Kingston, Ontario.
I am currently offering in-person services in Kingston, Ontario, as well as virtual services to individuals living throughout Ontario.
As a social worker, the foundation of my practice is understanding how interpersonal, familial, and cultural systems impact well-being. My approach to psychotherapy relies on the development of a trusting and safe relationship and incorporates concepts and practical strategies from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). I strive to practice in a way that is client-focused, anti-oppressive and trauma-informed. As a therapist, I have a commitment to supporting LGBTQ individuals and their families and am comfortable and happy to support individuals from all walks of life.
Individual sessions provide a supportive and non-judgemental space for you to explore your lived experiences and current challenges. Therapy can help you gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, help you to feel more prepared to handle life's challenges, and bring about a greater sense of fulfilment. You may be seeking individual therapy for support with:
- Depression or Anxiety -
- Improving emotion regulation and ability to cope with current stressors-
- Navigating relationship issues and boundaries -
- Exploring themes of gender identity and sexuality -
A felt sense of support from parents and caregivers is the number one predictor of positive mental health outcomes among trans and non-binary children and youth. I am happy to provide a safe space for caregivers to explore their experiences and connect with their children. My approach to this work is attachment and trauma-informed. Family support can include parent-coaching, education, and individual and/or family therapy in order to:
- Empower you to feel confident in supporting your child's transition-
- Guide you in navigating education and healthcare systems -
- Strengthen family relationships -
- Improve the mental health of your child -
Transition Related Surgical (TRS) Assessments are provided for the purpose of obtaining Prior Approval for OHIP-funded gender-affirming surgery. I am qualified as a Secondary Assessor to provide assessments which align with World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care. Secondary assessments are only required for lower surgeries. This service supports individuals as they prepare for the emotional/social components of their gender-affirming surgery. Together we will review what to expect throughout the process and develop an aftercare plan. This will include a collaborative assessment of the resources and supports available to you in order to ensure you feel prepared for surgery.
TRS Assessments are typically completed in one session and include the completion of Ministry of Health Prior Approval Form and a surgical referral letter which can be provided directly to you and/or to your primary care provider.
